About Locker Hooking
Locker hooking is a needlecraft that originated in England in the early 1900s where it was used primarily for making rugs by hooking wool yarn. In the 1940s, American needle crafters started locker hooking but it never caught on--possibly due to the cost of spun wool. In the 1970s, Australian Patricia Benson introduced a form of locker hooking that utilized wool in different forms—mostly unspun roving. In the U.S. American needle crafters begun using fabric strips to make rag rugs and this was called "Anchored Loop."
Today, needle crafters use different forms of yarn, ribbon, fibers, fabric strips, leather, and even plastic to create locker hooked projects. Locker hooking requires just a few simple tools and materials—a locker hook, the crafter's choice for hooking material, rug canvas, sturdy yarn, scissors, and a tapestry needle to easily finish a project.

Driven by her passion for color and design, Theresa Pulido has always sought out unique objects that feature compelling designs whether found in nature or crafted by hand. Theresa applies this passion to her own surroundings and hand made creations. She’s the author of “Hook, Loop, & Lock,” her first book on locker hooking, and spends her time promoting the craft through her business, Color Crazy, and through various presentations, workshops, and videos. After a twenty year career in high tech, Theresa decided to pursue a more creative track that taps her passion for color and anything that is hand-crafted. Theresa is always developing new designs and finding unique ways to create with fabric, fiber, and mixed media. She also enjoys gardening, cooking, photography, and scouting for new hand-crafted products and vintage accents.
